Sailing-Classics Mediterranean Voyage

MALTA, COMINO & GOZO

Sailing into the Grand Harbour of Valletta, the capital of Malta, is one of the most impressive experiences in the Mediterranean Sea. The fortress of Valletta on a headland between two harbors, built as a bulwark against the Ottoman Empire and for more than 250 years the seat of the Order of St. John after its expulsion from Rhodes, with its baroque buildings, the Grand Master’s Palace and the large dome of the cathedral is definitely worth a visit.

Arrival & Departure

The airport in Malta is regularly served by the usual airlines. If you have time, you should visit the capital Valletta before the trip – it’s worth it.

WIND & Weather

With up to 12 hours of sunshine, the summer months in Malta are not only friendly, but also very long. The conditions are perfect for a sailing vacation – the warm nights are ideal for a cozy evening on our aft deck.

Routing details

Look forward to relaxed sailing with plenty of time for swimming, shore excursions and relaxation. We head north along the east coast of Malta towards St. Paul’s Bay. According to legend, the apostle Paul was shipwrecked here on his way to Rome in 59 BC.
On Comino, which is only 2.5 km² in size, you will find a rocky plateau that rises only slightly out of the water, a barren landscape, a little vegetation in spring – and the famous Blue Lagoon, a 120 m wide passage between Comino and an offshore reef. Between rocks and caves, crystal-clear water shines in all shades of blue and green, and the place has been used as a movie set several times.
The tranquil neighboring island of Gozo, according to Homer the island of Calypso, where the goddess Odysseus is said to have been imprisoned for seven years, is quite different. Gozo is green, there are 14 varieties of wine, many olive trees, strawberries, peaches, oranges and vegetables. Enchanting villages still showcase traditional Maltese culture.
One of the main attractions is the ‘Temple of the Giantess’, a Stone Age temple complex built around 4,000 years BC, before returning to Valletta.
