Sailing trip (nature & whales) from Martinique
Martinique - Dominica - (Guadeloupe) - Iles des Saints - Martinique
We start in the beautiful bay of Le Marin in the south of the island of Martinique, a French overseas department, and sail via Saint-Pierre, which is dominated by the Montagne Pelée volcano and whose eruption in 1902 gave birth to volcanology as a science (interesting museum).
We sail on to the natural island of Dominica, which is an independent state and still has individual populations of Caribbean natives, as well as a large number of endemic plants and animals.
There are also sperm whales in a deep-sea trench off the island.
which, with a bit of luck, can be spotted from on board.
The next destination is the Îles des Saintes, 7 islands that were mostly settled by Breton fishermen and are politically part of Guadeloupe.
A very different kind of Caribbean to the islands where sugar cane was grown and the slave trade was practiced.
And the best for last – Guadeloupe, the butterfly island.
With the mountainous western part and the absolutely worth seeing “Route de la Traversée”, the oldest marine reserve in the world, the “Reservé Jaques Cousteau” and the dreamlike beach “Plage de Grande Anse”.
Last but not least, Deshaies was also the backdrop for the TV series “Death in Paradise”.

Wind and weather forecast
The best time to travel to the Caribbean is between December and April – ideal for soaking up the sun in winter. It is then tropically warm with water temperatures of 24-26°C and air temperatures of 24-30°C – occasionally there are short tropical rain showers. The constant trade winds ensure perfect sailing conditions.
