“Small” Atlantic crossing from the Azores to Gibraltar

Azores / Faial - Gibraltar

For sailors – a transfer cruise from Horta on Faial/Azores to Gibraltar As a follow-up to the previous Atlantic crossing or as an opportunity to get to know the Atlantic on a shorter crossing. It’s about moving the ship from one area to another. We also sail at night, shore excursions and swimming stops are not planned. Guests can help set and trim the sails and be assigned to the watches. But: ‘Everything can, nothing must’.

You can read what an Atlantic sailing trip feels like in the Süddeutsche Zeitung article here.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

You can easily travel to the ports in the Mediterranean with the usual airlines. The best way to reach Cape Verde and the Azores is via Lisbon. The return journey from the Caribbean to Europe is usually via London or Paris. For the return crossing to the Mediterranean, fly via London to Antigua. Depending on the duration of your journey, you should allow a buffer of 1-3 days for the return flight or book a rebookable ticket.

The cruise price includes: Costs for the nautical crew and service, accommodation on board in the booked category, sea transportation, full board on board, water, tea, filter coffee.

The price does not include: arrival and departure, transfers, soft drinks, Nespresso and alcoholic drinks and tips.

Special: Please note that the service is limited during transfers. Participants are regarded as co-sailors who can also assist the crew with watches and other customary work on board. As the sea can sometimes be rough, a certain level of physical fitness is required. Sailing experience is an advantage. Possible ports and stopovers depend on the route and the time frame. The captain makes the final decision. Depending on wind and weather conditions as well as technical conditions on board, the start and duration of the transfer voyage and any stopovers may vary without this giving rise to any further claims on either side. For the return flight, a buffer of at least 1 day (regular transfers), min. 2 days (‘small’ Atlantic crossing) or min. 3 days (Atlantic crossing) or a rebookable ticket can be booked. During a transfer, the ship is brought from A to B within a specified period of time, and we may also have to use the engine. We would like to point out that any known pre-existing conditions must be reported in good time before the start of the trip and that we require a doctor’s confirmation.

Sailing on the Atlantic is usually associated with the trade winds, which blow constantly in many parts. The weather can vary on long crossings, from calm conditions to heavy seas, and the influences of the Gulf Stream and crossing cold fronts require special attention. Up-to-date weather information is crucial for navigating through the various conditions in the Atlantic.
