Experience a fascinating sailing trip along the Sicilian coast and through the
impressive volcanic islands of the Aeolian Islands. We start in Syracuse, a city full of history and Mediterranean flair, and sail along the east coast of Sicily to Taormina, where spectacular views of Mount Etna and the famous Isola Bella await us.
From there, we set course for the Aeolian Islands and back again. A route that is all about enjoyment. Between historic towns, lively markets and the volcanic islands of the Tyrrhenian Sea, guests will experience Italian food and wine culture in a particularly intense form.
On Salina, we visit the Hauner winery, which is known for its characterful island wines. During a wine tasting, guests can enjoy the very special flavors of the Aeolian Islands and enjoy other local specialties such as grappa and capers, which are produced here in high quality.
A visit to the market in Catania, which is considered one of the most beautiful fish markets in Italy, is also an absolute must-do on the program. The selection of large fish – tuna, swordfish and dolphinfish – is overwhelming and gives a good impression of the importance of the sea for Sicilian cuisine. Back on board, there is a wine tasting with locally sourced wines, which picks up and deepens the culinary thread of the trip.
The week will be accompanied by Wolfgang Lechner, who, in addition to the excursions, will give two to three lectures on the topics “Never order spaghetti Bolognese! Ten popular misconceptions about Italian cuisine”, “Wine from way up high: Why the best wines in Italy grow on the slopes of Mount Etna today” and “The Seasick Privy Councillor: How the young Goethe experienced Sicily and its delights”.

In summer it is (almost) always nice and warm – although it usually remains pleasant on board above the water – in spring and fall it is cooler, you sometimes need a sweater, and the weather is more changeable than in summer. The winds of the Mediterranean Sea are as diverse as the countries and can be very different depending on the region.
We had a trip with KAIRÓS that could not have been better. Many thanks to the whole team and not least to our fantastic crew!
