Should Sailing-Classics need to change or cancel a trip, each case will be considered on an individual basis. In the event of minor changes (such as a slightly adjusted route due to weather conditions), we will work with our guests to find the best possible alternative. In the event of a complete cancellation by Sailing-Classics, you will, of course, receive a full refund of the trip price you paid. The safety of guests and crew is the top priority in all decisions.
If you are unable to embark on your sailing trip with Sailing-Classics, you will receive a pro-rata refund in accordance with the applicable cancellation policy. Depending on when the cancellation is made, 20%, 40%, 70%, 80%, or 90% of the trip price (fare) will be retained. In the event of a claim, this insurance covers the applicable cancellation costs and provides you with the necessary planning security.
Before your trip begins, Sailing-Classics will provide you with comprehensive information for your cruise. This includes the exact meeting point for boarding, the captain’s name, contact information for the ship, and your passenger ticket. You’ll also receive the “Onboard ABC”—a detailed onboard brochure with all relevant information about procedures, facilities, and customs on board. In addition, you’ll receive a transfer quote for your travel to and from the ship.
Before departure, all Sailing-Classics guests receive the “Onboard ABC”—a detailed onboard brochure that covers all the important topics related to life on board. In it, you’ll find information on check-in and departure, clothing, meals, payment on board, leisure activities, safety, cabins, and much more. The Onboard ABC is sent out along with the rest of your travel documents about two weeks before your trip and answers most of your questions in advance.
You will typically receive your travel documents for the Sailing Classics cruise about two weeks before departure. They include your passenger ticket, the exact embarkation location with a map excerpt, contact information for the ship and the captain, the onboard guide, and a transfer offer. This gives you plenty of time to finalize your preparations and get in the mood for your sailing trip.
You will find the exact boarding location for your sailing trip with Sailing-Classics on your passenger ticket, which will be sent to you about two weeks before the trip begins. Boarding generally takes place at 6:00 p.m. The crew will pick you up at the agreed-upon meeting point using motorized dinghies. If you arrive early, you can drop off your luggage at the meeting point starting at 10:00 a.m. during the designated drop-off times (10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m.) and spend the day ashore.
For a sailing trip with Sailing-Classics in the Mediterranean Sea, you’ll need a valid ID card. For trips to the Caribbean, Cape Verde, or Morocco, you’ll need a passport that’s valid for at least six months after the end of your trip.
For sailing trips with Sailing-Classics outside the EU—such as in the Caribbean, Cape Verde, or Morocco—your passport must be valid for at least six months after the end of your trip. This requirement is based on the entry regulations of the respective countries. Please check the validity of your passport well in advance of your departure, as obtaining a new passport can take several weeks, depending on where you live.
For most of Sailing-Classics’ sailing destinations in the Mediterranean Sea and the Caribbean, German, Austrian, and Swiss nationals generally do not need a visa. The crew on site will handle the entry and exit formalities. Should special entry requirements apply to certain destinations, Sailing-Classics will inform you well in advance of your departure. Citizens of other countries should check the visa requirements individually.
Whether an ID card is sufficient or a passport is required depends on the sailing destination of your Sailing-Classics trip. In the Mediterranean Sea, a valid ID card is sufficient for EU citizens. For trips to the Caribbean, Cape Verde, or Morocco, however, a passport with at least six months of validity remaining after the end of your trip is required. If in doubt, we recommend bringing your passport—that way, you’ll be on the safe side in any sailing area.
Whether you need an onward or return flight ticket to enter a country depends on the regulations of the destination country. In some Caribbean countries, proof of a return or onward flight may be required upon entry. Sailing-Classics will provide you with information on the specific requirements for your cruise in your travel documents. In general, it is recommended that you book a return flight before your trip begins.
In addition to the original copy of your ID card or passport, we recommend that you bring copies of all important documents—both digitally on your smartphone and in paper form. These include your passport or ID card, flight tickets, the booking confirmation from Sailing-Classics, your insurance policy (health insurance and travel cancellation insurance), and, if applicable, a vaccination record.
Entry requirements vary depending on the sailing destination of your Sailing-Classics trip. For trips in the Mediterranean Sea, EU citizens generally only need a valid ID card. In the Caribbean—for example, in Antigua, Martinique, Guadeloupe, or the BVI—as well as in Cape Verde and Morocco, a passport is required. The crew handles the customs clearance procedures at the respective ports. Sailing-Classics will provide you with information on the specific requirements for your trip in your travel documents.
On sailing trips with Sailing-Classics, the crew handles all customs and clearance formalities in the ports. As a guest, you generally do not need to take care of these matters yourself. However, please be aware of the general import regulations of the respective country—especially regarding tobacco, alcohol, and certain foods.
The crew handles all entry and exit formalities for sailing trips with Sailing-Classics. The captain handles the customs and port clearance procedures. To do so, he will need your ID card or passport at the start of the trip; it will be kept safely on board and returned to you on the day of departure. Depending on the sailing destination, the clearance process may require a little patience.
For a sailing trip with Sailing-Classics, we recommend casual, comfortable clothing. During the day, shorts, T-shirts, and swimwear are sufficient; in the evening, the dress code is also casual. For the Captain’s Dinner on the last evening, smart-casual attire is recommended. Important: It’s often cooler and windier on the water than on land—a light jacket or sweater for the evenings is advisable. In the spring and fall, and for transatlantic cruises on the Atlantic, be sure to pack waterproof and windproof clothing.
Sailing-Classics provides an official packing list as part of the “Onboard ABC,” which you’ll receive about two weeks before the trip begins. In general, we recommend lightweight, casual clothing for daytime, a sporty-elegant outfit for the Captain’s Dinner, sunscreen with a high SPF, non-slip boat shoes or flip-flops, and a waterproof and windproof jacket. You should bring your own snorkeling gear in special sizes for children.
For a sailing trip aboard Sailing-Classics yachts, soft travel bags are much better suited than hard-shell suitcases. Especially on the KAIRÓS, whose cabins are more compact and don’t offer storage space under the beds, foldable bags are the best choice. On the CHRONOS and RHEA, there is space under the beds for your luggage, so even a medium-sized suitcase can be stowed there. As a general rule, the more flexible your luggage is, the easier it is to fit it into the cabin closets.
While there are no official weight restrictions on Sailing-Classics, standard luggage weighing up to about 20 kg is easily accommodated. Space in the cabins is limited (as on any yacht), so it’s advisable to pack wisely. On the KAIRÓS, foldable, soft bags are particularly useful, as there is no storage space under the beds. On the CHRONOS and the RHEA, there is space under the beds for luggage. Practical tip: It’s better to pack two smaller bags than one large suitcase.
The daily routine aboard a Sailing Classics yacht follows a relaxed pace without a rigid schedule. Coffee and tea are available starting at 7:30 a.m., and the breakfast buffet begins at 9:00 a.m. Afterward, the sails are set—you’ll typically sail for four to six hours a day. Around 1:00 p.m., a light two-course lunch is served, followed by coffee and cake in the afternoon. The evening begins with a sundowner cocktail on deck, followed by a three-course dinner served between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. In between, there’s plenty of time for swimming, snorkeling, and shore excursions.
On Sailing-Classics’ sailing trips, an average of about 70% of the journey is covered under sail. Each day includes about four to six hours of active sailing. The rest of the time is spent swimming, snorkeling, enjoying water sports, and going on shore excursions. The yachts mainly anchor in sheltered bays rather than in harbors, which is much quieter and more idyllic. What could be better than taking a swim around the boat after your first cup of coffee in the morning?
The wind plays a central role in the daily schedule, and that’s by design. Unlike traditional cruises, there’s no set itinerary. The captain often decides spontaneously, depending on wind and weather conditions, which route makes the most sense. If the wind is favorable, the voyage continues; if there’s a lull, the ship anchors in a sheltered bay. This flexibility is what makes these sailing trips so special and guarantees an authentic sailing experience, with the departure and destination ports serving as fixed points of reference.
The atmosphere aboard the Sailing-Classics yachts is exceptionally friendly and relaxed. With a maximum of 26 guests on the CHRONOS and RHEA and a maximum of 12 guests on the KAIRÓS, a sense of camaraderie develops quickly. The style is casual—most guests go barefoot, and everyone is on a first-name basis on board. Experience shows that fellow travelers bond quickly, and it’s not uncommon for genuine friendships to form, making it really hard to say goodbye at the end of the cruise.
Life on board with Sailing-Classics combines set daily schedules with plenty of personal freedom. Meals follow a general schedule (breakfast starting at 9:00 a.m., lunch around 1:00 p.m., dinner between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m.), but in between, you’re free to structure your day however you like. You’re welcome to help out with sailing, go for a swim, read a book on deck, or take a shore excursion. The crew will flexibly adjust the schedule as needed to accommodate the day’s plans and the weather.
At Sailing-Classics, you’re warmly invited to actively participate in sailing—no prior experience or sailing license required. You can help set and trim the sails, take the helm yourself, or lend a hand with other tasks on deck. The crew will be happy to explain the basics of sailing to you, show you how radar navigation works on the bridge, or give you a tour of the engine room. If you’d rather relax, just enjoy the scenery as it passes by—our motto is: “Everything is possible, nothing is required.”
The cabins aboard the Sailing-Classics yachts are comfortable and functionally furnished. Each cabin features a private bathroom with a toilet and shower, individually controlled air conditioning, a closet, a hair dryer, and hand and bath towels. 230-volt outlets allow you to charge electronic devices. A reusable water bottle is provided in each cabin and can be refilled at the water dispenser in the salon.
The size of the cabins on the Sailing Classics yachts varies depending on the ship and category. On the CHRONOS and RHEA, cabins range in size from 11 to 14 m². The RHEA offers 13 double cabins in two categories: Deluxe cabins measuring approximately 12–13 m² and Long Cabins measuring approximately 11 m². The KAIRÓS has 8 double cabins available—six A cabins measuring approximately 10–11 m² and two more compact B cabins measuring approximately 8–9 m². All cabins are air-conditioned and equipped with private bathrooms.
All Sailing Classics yachts offer different cabin categories. The RHEA offers deluxe cabins (approx. 12–13 m²), where the beds can be arranged as single, double, or family beds, as well as long cabins (approx. 11 m²) with a fixed double bed. The CHRONOS also has various categories with similar amounts of space. The KAIRÓS has A cabins (approx. 10–11 m² with a double bed) and B cabins (approx. 8–9 m² with a bunk bed or small double bed). All cabins have a private bathroom.
All cabins on the three Sailing Classics yachts—CHRONOS, RHEA, and KAIRÓS—feature a private bathroom with a toilet and shower stall. A private bathroom is therefore the standard, not the exception. In addition, all cabins are air-conditioned, equipped with a hair dryer, and feature electrical outlets for charging your devices. Towels for the cabin and the beach are provided.
At night, it’s usually pleasantly quiet aboard the Sailing Classics yachts. Since the ships are often anchored in sheltered bays, the surroundings are generally very quiet. Occasional ship-related noises—such as those from the anchor chain, the lapping of the waves, or generators—cannot be entirely avoided on a sailing ship, but they are part of the maritime experience and hardly bother most guests.
The storage space in the cabins of the Sailing-Classics yachts is ample for a sailing trip. On the CHRONOS and RHEA, there is additional space for luggage under the beds, supplemented by a closet. The KAIRÓS lacks storage space under the beds, which is why flexible, foldable travel bags are especially recommended there. As a general rule: Pack lightly—casual clothing, sunscreen, and a jacket for the evenings are the most important items.
Meals on board Sailing-Classics are provided on a full-board basis and are included in the tour price. The day begins with a hearty breakfast buffet, followed by a light two-course lunch, and coffee and cake in the afternoon. In the evening, the onboard chef prepares a three-course dinner. On the last evening, the festive Captain’s Dinner serves as the culinary highlight. Once a week, dinner is served ashore to introduce guests to the regional cuisine—this is not included in the tour price. Special dietary needs and allergies can be accommodated if notified in advance.
The Sailing-Classics tour price includes full board—that is, all meals on board: a breakfast buffet, a two-course lunch, coffee and cake in the afternoon, and a three-course dinner in the evening. The only exception is the weekly dinner ashore, where you’ll get to sample the local cuisine of the respective sailing area. This dinner is billed separately. Water, tea, and filter coffee are also included in the price.
The Sailing-Classics galley can easily provide vegetarian options. Vegan meals are also available, though certain limitations may apply due to the galley’s limited capabilities. Allergies and food intolerances are also taken into account—in particularly complex cases, we recommend contacting Sailing-Classics in advance to discuss everything in detail. The sooner you let us know your dietary preferences, the better the crew can plan your meals.
The Sailing-Classics tour price includes still water, tea, and filter coffee—these are offered free of charge on deck and in the salon. Soft drinks, Nespresso coffee, and alcoholic beverages are charged to your personal onboard account. Prices can be found on the bar menu onboard. You may not bring your own beverages on board.
Meal times aboard Sailing-Classics are relatively fixed—breakfast starting at 9:00 a.m., lunch around 1:00 p.m., and dinner between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. Since Sailing-Classics follows a customized itinerary without fixed schedules, the crew can flexibly adjust meal times as needed—for example, if a particularly beautiful anchorage or a shore excursion disrupts the usual rhythm. The crew will always communicate any changes in a timely manner.
The professional crew at Sailing-Classics takes care of all onboard operations. This includes sailing the boat, serving meals and beverages, daily cabin cleaning, organizing dinghy trips to shore, and the care and maintenance of the boat. In addition, the crew will book shore excursions upon request, provide recommendations for restaurants and attractions, and arrange transfers. The crew is always available to answer your questions—whether they’re about sailing, technical matters, or your next shore excursion.
Both German and English are spoken aboard the Sailing-Classics yachts. The international crew communicates with each other in English, and with guests in both German and English. On KAIRÓS, we cannot always guarantee German-language communication.
At the start of every sailing trip with Sailing-Classics, a comprehensive orientation takes place. The crew will first show you to your cabin and explain all the important features. This is followed by a mandatory safety briefing, during which the crew will explain, among other things, the safety equipment, the procedures for emergencies such as man overboard or fire, and general safety guidelines for life on board. The captain and crew are then available at any time to answer questions.
The activities on board a Sailing Classics cruise are varied. In addition to actively participating in sailing, water sports such as stand-up paddleboarding, water skiing, wakeboarding, banana boat rides, and snorkeling are available. You can swim directly from the ship using the Admiralty ladder. On deck, benches and lounging areas invite you to sunbathe and read. There are also guided shore excursions, dining at restaurants on land, the festive Captain’s Dinner, and a sailing presentation by the crew.
Swimming and snorkeling are among the highlights of every Sailing Classics trip. On virtually all routes, you’ll be surrounded by crystal-clear water and can enter the water directly from the ship using the Admiralty ladder or from the dinghies. Standard-size snorkeling gear is provided free of charge on all three yachts. However, you should bring your own special sizes for children. After swimming, simply rinse off the salt water under the deck shower.
All three Sailing Classics yachts are equipped with a wide range of water sports gear. This includes stand-up paddleboards, water skis, a wakeboard, snorkeling gear, and inflatable tubes (donuts). The CHRONOS and RHEA models also feature open-water kayaks.
Sailing-Classics organizes shore excursions using the crew’s motorized dinghies. Upon request, the crew will take you ashore and pick you up again free of charge—just let the team know in advance. In addition, in many sailing areas, the crew organizes guided shore excursions with a local guide or accompanied by a crew member. The cost per participant will be communicated in advance and charged to your onboard account. Of course, you’re also welcome to explore the surrounding area on your own.
Sailing-Classics trips allow plenty of free time ashore. Since there’s no set itinerary and the yachts regularly anchor in coves and small harbors, there are always opportunities for you to explore on your own. The crew is happy to offer tips on sights, restaurants, and walking tours. Whether you take a stroll through a charming harbor town or simply spend a day at the beach—you decide for yourself how to spend your time ashore.
Wi-Fi is available on all Sailing Classics yachts via Starlink satellite for a fee. Cell phone reception and data roaming are available in most coastal areas. On the high seas—such as during Atlantic crossings—there is, of course, no cell phone reception. Many guests actually enjoy the digital break on board as part of the experience.
Electronic devices can be easily charged on board Sailing-Classics yachts. All cabins are equipped with 230-volt Type F outlets (Schuko-style). Travelers from Switzerland or the United Kingdom should bring a suitable adapter. Please note that the power output of the generators may occasionally be reduced at night and while sailing.
On board the Sailing-Classics yachts, you’ll find plenty of peaceful retreats. The large open teak deck features benches and lounging areas for reading, relaxing, and sunbathing. Given the size of the ships, everyone can find a quiet spot. On the CHRONOS and RHEA, you can also “float” above the sea in the bow net at the very front of the ship—a particularly meditative spot. Below deck, the salon—with its onboard library and board games—as well as your private cabin invite you to unwind.
Sailing-Classics offers several types of trips: The classic Sailing Yacht Journey, typically lasting one week, is the most popular option and combines relaxed sailing with swimming and shore excursions. In addition, there are Distance Sailing Journeys covering longer routes and occasionally including overnight sailing legs, delivery cruises (including Atlantic crossings), themed cruises with expert guides (such as those focusing on history or volcanoes), Regattas like the Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta and Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, as well as Trial Journeys to get acquainted with sailing.
When you book a cabin with Sailing-Classics, you reserve a single cabin on a set cruise and travel together with other guests. With a full charter, on the other hand, you book the entire boat EXCLUSIVELY for your group—ideal for private parties, corporate events, or a group of friends. With a full charter, you can help plan the route and itinerary, whereas with a cabin booking, the itinerary is set by Sailing-Classics. Both booking options are available on all three yachts.
Sailing with Sailing-Classics means that, as a guest, you’ll travel on a professionally crewed large yacht and can actively participate in sailing operations if you wish. You don’t need any sailing experience or a sailing license. The crew will show you everything—from steering to setting the sails to navigation. If you’d rather relax, just sit back and enjoy the ride. This is not a charter yacht that you captain yourself, but a passenger vessel with a professional crew and full service.
An exclusive full charter with Sailing-Classics is particularly well-suited for groups who want the boat all to themselves—whether for a milestone birthday, a honeymoon, a corporate incentive trip, a team-building event, or a trip with a large group of friends. The KAIRÓS can accommodate up to 12 guests, while the CHRONOS and RHEA can each accommodate up to 26 guests. With a full charter, the route, schedule, and itinerary can be customized in consultation with Sailing-Classics.
Sailing-Classics’ sailing trips vary in length. The classic Sailing Yacht Journeys usually last seven nights. In addition, there are shorter introductory cruises starting at four nights, extended cruises lasting nine to ten nights, and long-distance voyages such as Atlantic crossings with up to 21 nights aboard the yacht. Prices vary depending on duration, destination, and season—one-week cruises in the Mediterranean Sea start at approximately €3,500 per person.
Sailing-Classics regularly offers shorter introductory sailing trips. These typically last three to four nights and take place in various sailing areas. They’re especially suitable for beginners who aren’t yet sure whether a sailing trip is right for them, or for anyone who just wants to spend a long weekend on the water.
Sailing-Classics offers a variety of long-distance and transit voyages. These include Atlantic crossings (both from Europe to the Caribbean and in the opposite direction), crossings in the Mediterranean Sea, as well as crossings to Cape Verde, from the Azores, or along the Atlantic coast. On these trips, the routes are longer than on regular cruises, and sailing continues through the night. Our yachts are ideally equipped for these challenging crossings.
Sailing-Classics’ coastal cruises—such as along the Amalfi Coast, through the Cyclades, or among the Caribbean islands—are characterized by shorter daily legs, frequent anchorage stops in bays, and regular shore excursions. On deep-sea voyages and Atlantic crossings, however, you’ll sail over longer distances, sometimes even sailing through the night. The ocean is vaster, and the experiences more intense: starry skies free of light pollution, swimming stops in the middle of the ocean, and the feeling of boundless expanse. Both options offer authentic sailing—just at different levels of intensity.
Sailing-Classics regularly offers special themed cruises led by an expert tour guide. These include, among others, cruises focusing on “Sailing & History” or volcano-themed cruises around Sicily & the Lipari Islands. Culinary sailing cruises, such as those around Mallorca, are also part of the program. In addition, Sailing-Classics organizes Regattas such as Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez and participates in the Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta.
Atlantic crossings with Sailing-Classics are ideal for adventurous travelers who want to experience the vastness of the ocean. Sailing experience is not required. The professional crew handles safety and navigation. You can help sail or simply enjoy the experience. The voyages typically go from Europe via the Canary Islands or Cape Verde to the Caribbean, or on the return route from Antigua via the Azores to Gibraltar. The RHEA and CHRONOS are perfectly suited for these deep-sea voyages.
Sailing-Classics’ delivery cruises and Distance Sailing Journeys are designed especially for guests who want to focus on active sailing. On these trips, the routes are longer, sailing continues through the night, and the opportunity to participate is particularly extensive. However, active participation is also possible at any time on the regular Sailing Yacht Journeys.
Solo travelers are expressly welcome at Sailing-Classics. Simply book a cabin for single occupancy—there is usually a single occupancy surcharge that varies by season—or, during the off-season, book half a cabin, which you may share with another guest of the same gender. During certain periods, this surcharge does not apply (for promotional offers). Thanks to the intimate atmosphere on board with a maximum of 26 guests, solo travelers quickly make friends, and quite a few of Sailing-Classics’ regular guests started out as solo travelers.
Sailing trips with Sailing-Classics are perfect for a shared vacation experience among friends. You can book multiple cabins on a trip and take advantage of group discounts for groups of 10 or more. For larger groups, a full charter is available—in which case the entire ship belongs to your group. The KAIRÓS accommodates up to 12 guests, while the CHRONOS and RHEA each accommodate up to 26. The itinerary and program can be customized for a full charter.
The maximum number of guests per voyage with Sailing-Classics depends on the ship. The KAIRÓS carries a maximum of 12 guests, while the CHRONOS and the RHEA each carry a maximum of 26 guests. There is no strict minimum number of participants required for individual cruises to take place. Cruises will depart even with fewer guests on board. For full charters, you can book the entire ship EXCLUSIVELY.
Sailing-Classics does not have any official age restrictions. Children are welcome, but they should already know how to swim. A certain level of physical mobility is essential, as boarding and disembarking via the Admiralty ladder and being on a sailing ship generally require a certain degree of agility. You can find more information about sailing trips for people 50 and older on our blog. If you have any health or physical limitations, please let us know in advance so our team can provide you with personalized advice.
For beginners, shorter taster trips and trips in sheltered areas such as Sardinia – Corsica, Croatia or the Ionian Islands (Corfu) are particularly recommended. In these areas, the sea is calmer, the legs are shorter and the likelihood of heavy swell is low. No previous sailing experience is required – the professional crew will take care of everything. If you are worried about seasickness, you will find particularly gentle conditions in the beginner areas.
Experienced sailors will find Sailing-Classics particularly rewarding on delivery cruises, Distance Sailing Journeys, and Atlantic crossings. Here, sailing is more intensive—including at night—the distances are longer, and the sailing experience is more challenging. Active participation in the Antigua Classic Regatta is also a highlight for seasoned sailors. On all trips, the rule is: Anyone who wants to actively participate in sailing will be involved by the crew—from steering to trimming the sails to navigation.
Private celebrations and special occasions can be perfectly organized with Sailing-Classics as part of a full charter. Whether it’s a milestone birthday, honeymoon, anniversary, or corporate event—when you book the entire ship EXCLUSIVELY, the itinerary, program, and catering can be customized to your needs. The Captain’s Dinner on the final evening also provides a festive setting. Contact the Sailing-Classics team for a personalized consultation about your event.
The yachts from Sailing-Classics are built and equipped in accordance with the high Dutch passenger ship standards. All three vessels are inspected annually by a certified classification society have been inspected and are certified for worldwide operation as passenger ships. Safety equipment includes life rafts, life jackets, a sprinkler system, radar, an emergency generator, radar beacons (EPIRB and SART), satellite and radio systems, fire suppression systems, and a comprehensive set of emergency medical supplies.
Life aboard the Sailing-Classics yachts is very safe and well-organized. The vessels meet the highest safety standards and are inspected annually. The captain and the helmsman are Graduates of the Vocational Maritime School and undergo ongoing training. The rest of the crew also receives intensive training in emergency procedures. A mandatory safety briefing is held at the start of every voyage. Furthermore, despite their speed, the yachts are exceptionally stable—even in heavy weather, hardly any water comes on deck.
Sailing-Classics strongly recommends travel cancellation insurance and international health insurance. International health insurance protects you from high medical costs, and travel cancellation insurance covers you against cancellation fees.
Seasickness is rarely a serious problem on Sailing-Classics cruises. Under sail, the boat is supported by the wind, which makes the rolling motion much more comfortable than on motorboats. For most people, the vestibular system adjusts to the boat’s motion within a few hours. A tried-and-true remedy on board is ginger tea, which is served throughout the day. If you want to play it safe, bring a mild motion sickness medication with you. For those who are particularly cautious, we recommend starting your sailing journey in sheltered waters such as Corfu or Croatia.
The medical equipment on board Sailing-Classics yachts is comprehensive and goes beyond the usual standards. In addition to the onboard first-aid kit, oxygen, a defibrillator, and other emergency supplies are available. The crew has received medical training and maintains direct radio contact with emergency medical stations on shore, which can provide guidance on administering prescription medications if necessary. Nevertheless, Sailing-Classics recommends that you bring your own medications and a personal first-aid kit.
On board the Sailing-Classics yachts, the atmosphere is respectful and relaxed. There is plenty of freedom of movement. Walking barefoot on deck is the norm. During meals, guests are asked to refrain from wearing swimwear and to dress appropriately. For shore excursions, please observe the local customs of each country. The captain ensures that safety standards are maintained, and at the start of each voyage, there is a safety briefing covering various emergency scenarios. Smoking is permitted only on the aft deck.
Hygiene measures aboard the Sailing-Classics yachts meet high standards. Each cabin has its own shower and toilet. The galley is fully equipped with stainless steel surfaces. The cabins are thoroughly cleaned twice a week, supplemented by a daily check that includes trash removal and light cleaning. The common areas—the salon, deck, and restrooms—are also regularly cleaned and maintained.
In the event of an emergency at sea, the Sailing-Classics crew is fully prepared. The captain and helmsman are trained professional sailors, and the entire crew regularly participates in emergency rescue drills. The vessels are equipped with life rafts, automatic emergency position-indicating radio beacons (EPIRBs), satellite communication, and radio. Medical assistance and search and rescue can be requested via radio at any time. The safety briefing at the start of each voyage also prepares guests for potential scenarios.
In strong winds or extreme weather conditions, guest safety is the top priority at Sailing-Classics. The captain flexibly adjusts the route and, if necessary, heads for a safe location in sheltered bays or harbors. It is precisely this flexibility—without a fixed itinerary—that allows the crew to respond to weather changes at any time. The vessels themselves are certified for worldwide voyages and sail stably and safely even in rough weather. Any route changes are communicated transparently to the guests.
If you have any pre-existing medical conditions, you must inform Sailing-Classics and the crew before the trip begins. The team will be happy to advise you individually on whether and under what conditions a sailing trip is suitable for you. If there are any health or safety concerns that were not communicated in advance, the captain reserves the right to refuse to allow guests on board. Please bring your personal medications and, if necessary, a doctor’s note. Unfortunately, the ships are not suitable for wheelchair users or people with severe mobility impairments.
Cleanliness aboard Sailing-Classics yachts is ensured by a regular cleaning schedule. Twice a week, a complete cabin cleaning takes place, during which the linens are changed and everything is thoroughly cleaned. In addition, there is a daily check during which the crew disposes of trash and performs minor cleaning tasks. Common areas such as the salon, deck, and bar are also cleaned and maintained daily.
Drinking water on board the Sailing-Classics yachts is provided by fresh water tanks and a seawater desalination system that uses reverse osmosis. The water quality meets the highest standards and is regularly checked by the crew and the authorities. A reusable water bottle is provided in each cabin and can be refilled at the water dispenser in the salon. Still water is included in the price of the trip. The tap water in the cabins is suitable for brushing your teeth but is not drinking water.
