Itinerary

Every sailing trip follows the conditions of nature. The itinerary shown is a non-binding orientation and can change depending on wind and weather.

After your journey to the British Virgin Islands, the voyage begins on Tortola, our starting point. Once on board, you meet the crew for the days ahead. At the welcome dinner on deck, you savour your first impressions of the Caribbean.

In the morning it is finally time to cast off. The yacht leaves Tortola and sets course for Virgin Gorda. Under full sail, the route leads through the sheltered Sir Francis Drake Channel, whose calm waters offer ideal conditions for a relaxed sail. Soon the green hills of Virgin Gorda rise ahead of the bow. In the North Sound, we drop anchor in one of the most beautiful natural harbours in the Caribbean. The afternoon is all about swimming, snorkelling and unwinding, as the sun slowly sinks behind the surrounding islands.

The day begins with a plunge into the warm, crystal-clear water. Virgin Gorda delights with its lush tropical vegetation and spectacular coastal scenery. Some guests take the opportunity for an excursion ashore, while others explore the underwater world around the yacht. The sheltered bays invite you to swim and snorkel. In the evening we soak up the special atmosphere of the North Sound and enjoy another Caribbean sunset right from the deck.

Unlike the other volcanic islands of the BVI, Anegada is a flat coral island that barely rises above sea level. While under sail, the island seems to stay invisible for a long time before finally appearing on the horizon. Once at anchor, miles of sandy beaches and crystal-clear water beckon. The peace and openness of the island convey a sense of seclusion that has become rare in the Caribbean. In the evening we enjoy fresh lobster – a speciality for which Anegada is famous far beyond its shores.

After a relaxed morning we leave Anegada and sail back towards Virgin Gorda. The steady trade wind provides ideal conditions for a glorious day of sailing. Along the way, flying fish keep us company and fantastic views of the British Virgin Islands open up again and again. In the afternoon there is time for a swimming stop in a sheltered bay before we drop anchor once more and spend the evening beneath the Caribbean night sky.

The route now heads west to the island of Jost Van Dyke. The short hops between the islands make these cruising grounds especially varied. Once at anchor, we explore the island and enjoy its laid-back atmosphere. Jost Van Dyke is famous for its legendary beach bars, where sailors from all over the world gather. And of course, no visit is complete without a “Pain Killer” – the unofficial speciality of the British Virgin Islands, made with rum, fruit juices and coconut cream.

If you wish, start the morning with a swim in the turquoise water or a snorkelling tour along the coast. Afterwards there is time to explore the island or simply enjoy the peace on board. Then the sails are set one last time. The yacht sets course back to Tortola, gliding through the now-familiar islands of the British Virgin Islands. At the traditional Captain’s Dinner on the final evening, crew and guests come together once more in convivial company, relive the finest moments of the past week and raise a toast to an unforgettable voyage through the British Virgin Islands.

The voyage ends after breakfast. With unforgettable memories of turquoise bays, striking volcanic islands and relaxed days under sail, you set off for home or extend your stay in the Caribbean.

Important information

St. Martin can be reached almost daily with Air France via Paris (without changing airports) or with KLM via Amsterdam. From there you can take the local island hopper to Tortola (Beef Island), or sail on board the RHEA via Anguilla and Dog Island to the BVIs and back.

The cruise price includes: costs for the nautical crew and service, accommodation on board in the booked category, sea transport, full board on board / one evening per week to discover the local cuisine at your own expense, water, tea, filter coffee. The price does not include: arrival and departure, transfers, soft drinks, Nespresso and alcoholic beverages, water sports from on board, shore excursions and gratuities.

The best time to travel to the Caribbean is between December and April – ideal for soaking up the sun in winter. It is then tropically warm with water temperatures of 24-26°C and air temperatures of 24-30°C – occasionally there are short tropical rain showers. The constant trade winds ensure perfect sailing conditions.

Life on board the Sailing-Classics yachts is very safe and well organised. The vessels meet the highest safety standards and are inspected annually. The captain and helmsman are graduates of a professional maritime college and undergo continuous professional development. The rest of the crew also receive intensive training in how to deal with emergencies. A compulsory safety briefing takes place at the start of every voyage. Furthermore, despite their speed, the yachts sail with remarkable stability – even in heavy weather, hardly any water comes on deck.

Both German and English are spoken on board the Sailing-Classics yachts. The language used amongst the international crew is English, whilst they communicate with guests in both German and English. On the KAIRÓS, we cannot always guarantee communication in German.

Meals on board Sailing-Classics are organised on a full-board basis and are included in the tour price. The day begins with a generous breakfast buffet, followed by a light two-course lunch and coffee and cake in the afternoon. In the evening, the on-board chef prepares a three-course dinner. On the final evening, the festive Captain’s Dinner is the culinary highlight. Once a week, a dinner is held ashore to sample the regional cuisine – this is not included in the tour price. Special dietary requirements and allergies can be catered for if notified in advance.

Sailing-Classics organises shore excursions using the crew’s motorised dinghies. On request, the crew will take you ashore and collect you again free of charge – simply let the team know in good time. In addition, in many sailing areas, the crew organises guided shore excursions with a local guide or accompanied by a crew member. The price per participant is communicated in advance and charged to your on-board account. Of course, you are also welcome to explore the surrounding area on your own.

The cabins on board the Sailing-Classics yachts are comfortable and practically furnished. Each cabin has its own en-suite bathroom with a toilet and shower cubicle, individually controlled air conditioning, a wardrobe, a hairdryer, and hand and bath towels. 230-volt sockets are available for charging electronic devices. A reusable water bottle is provided in every cabin and can be refilled at the water dispenser in the saloon.

At Sailing-Classics, you’re warmly invited to get actively involved in sailing – no prior experience or sailing licence required. You can help set and trim the sails, take the helm yourself, or lend a hand with other tasks on deck. The crew will be happy to explain the basics of sailing to you, show you how radar navigation works on the bridge, or give you a tour of the engine room. Those who prefer to relax can simply enjoy the passing scenery – the motto is: ‘Everything is possible, nothing is compulsory.’

To cancel your sailing holiday with Sailing-Classics, please send your cancellation request by email to info@sailing-classics.com. Written notification is required so that the cancellation can be processed officially. Depending on when the cancellation is made, Sailing-Classics’ tiered cancellation terms and conditions will apply. We strongly recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance to protect yourself financially.
