Delivery through the Mediterranean

For sailors – a delivery voyage from Malaga to Malta. The aim is to move the yacht from one region to another. Sailing also takes place at night; shore excursions and swimming stops are not planned. Guests can help with setting and trimming the sails and join the watch shifts. But: ‘Everything is optional, nothing is mandatory.’

Itinerary

Every sailing trip follows the conditions of nature. The itinerary shown is a non-binding orientation and can change depending on wind and weather.

Individual arrival in Malta and boarding in the afternoon. On board, you will meet your fellow sailors, the crew, and of course the yacht. During a detailed briefing, you will learn everything important about life and routines on board during the coming days at sea.

At the first shared dinner, there is time to get to know each other and to look ahead to the upcoming passage. The captain explains the current weather situation and the planned routing for the next days.

After breakfast, it’s time to cast off. The coast slowly recedes and ahead lies the open sea. From now on, the yacht is underway nonstop – by day and by night.

Whenever conditions allow, sailing will take place. Those who wish can assist the crew with setting and trimming sails, steering, and learning more about navigation and seamanship. Participation is warmly encouraged but not mandatory.

On a delivery, the sea sets the daily rhythm. There are no fixed daily programs and no ports that must be reached at a certain time. Instead, long hours of sailing alternate with shared meals and quiet moments on deck.

The yacht continues its journey even at night. Those who wish can experience sailing under the starry sky and gain a very special impression of what a longer passage at sea feels like.

Along the way, there is much to observe: dolphins often accompany the bow for a while, flying fish skim over the water’s surface, and with some luck, a whale may even appear on the horizon. Between these moments lie hours where only sea and sky are visible – this is exactly what makes a delivery so special.

With every nautical mile, familiarity with the yacht and its routines grows. The crew provides insights into navigation, weather, sailing maneuvers, and life at sea. Thus, the passage itself becomes the actual destination.

After several days at sea, the coast of Gibraltar finally appears on the horizon. The last nautical miles offer one more opportunity to enjoy sailing and the shared time on board.

After arrival, the traditional Captain’s Dinner takes place. Together with the crew and fellow sailors, you reflect on the distance covered and the special moments of the delivery.

After a final shared breakfast, it’s time to say goodbye to the crew, fellow sailors, and the yacht. Disembarkation in La Linea and individual departure or extension of your stay on land.

An intense time at sea comes to an end – with many nautical miles sailed and a completely new perspective on travelling under sail.

The voyage from 07.05.-14.05.2027 is offered fully as a regular Sailing-Classics trip and can also be booked normally without the course. Additionally, we offer interested guests the opportunity to participate in a 5-day yacht construction course for beginners. Optional: Yacht construction course for beginners Parallel to the sailing trip, we offer a yacht construction course for beginners for a maximum of 10 participants. The course is optional and can be booked independently of the trip.

  • Scope: about 4 hours per day
  • Cost: €650 per person (including textbook), in addition to the travel price
  • Number of participants: min. 7, max. 10 persons

Important information

You can arrive via major airports and common airlines. Those wishing to travel more climate-friendly can check options by train or ferry.

The travel price includes: costs for the nautical crew and service, accommodation on board in the booked category, sea transport, full board on board, water, tea, filtered coffee. The price does not include: arrival and departure, transfers, soft drinks, Nespresso and alcoholic beverages, and tips. Special note: Please be aware that service is limited during deliveries. Participants are considered fellow sailors who can assist the crew with watches and other routine tasks on board. Since the sea can sometimes be rough, a certain level of physical fitness is required. Sailing experience is an advantage. Possible port and intermediate stops depend on the route and time frame. The final decision lies with the captain. Depending on wind and weather conditions as well as technical conditions of the yacht, the start and duration of the delivery voyage and any intermediate stops may vary without further claims on either side. For the return flight, a buffer of at least 1 day (regular deliveries), at least 2 days (small Atlantic crossing), or at least 3 days (Atlantic crossing) should be planned or a rebookable ticket purchased. During a delivery, the yacht is moved from A to B within a given timeframe, and motoring may be necessary. We point out that any known pre-existing medical conditions must be communicated in good time before the start of the trip.

In summer it is (almost) always pleasantly warm – although on board above the water it usually remains comfortable – in spring and autumn it is cooler, you sometimes need a sweater, and the weather is more changeable than in summer. The winds of the Mediterranean are as varied as the countries and can be very different depending on the region.

Life on board the Sailing-Classics yachts is very safe and well organised. The vessels meet the highest safety standards and are inspected annually. The captain and helmsman are graduates of a professional maritime college and undergo continuous professional development. The rest of the crew also receive intensive training in how to deal with emergencies. A compulsory safety briefing takes place at the start of every voyage. Furthermore, despite their speed, the yachts sail with remarkable stability – even in heavy weather, hardly any water comes on deck.

Both German and English are spoken on board the Sailing-Classics yachts. The language used amongst the international crew is English, whilst they communicate with guests in both German and English. On the KAIRÓS, we cannot always guarantee communication in German.

Meals on board Sailing-Classics are organised on a full-board basis and are included in the tour price. The day begins with a generous breakfast buffet, followed by a light two-course lunch and coffee and cake in the afternoon. In the evening, the on-board chef prepares a three-course dinner. On the final evening, the festive Captain’s Dinner is the culinary highlight. Once a week, a dinner is held ashore to sample the regional cuisine – this is not included in the tour price. Special dietary requirements and allergies can be catered for if notified in advance.

Sailing-Classics organises shore excursions using the crew’s motorised dinghies. On request, the crew will take you ashore and collect you again free of charge – simply let the team know in good time. In addition, in many sailing areas, the crew organises guided shore excursions with a local guide or accompanied by a crew member. The price per participant is communicated in advance and charged to your on-board account. Of course, you are also welcome to explore the surrounding area on your own.

The cabins on board the Sailing-Classics yachts are comfortable and practically furnished. Each cabin has its own en-suite bathroom with a toilet and shower cubicle, individually controlled air conditioning, a wardrobe, a hairdryer, and hand and bath towels. 230-volt sockets are available for charging electronic devices. A reusable water bottle is provided in every cabin and can be refilled at the water dispenser in the saloon.

At Sailing-Classics, you’re warmly invited to get actively involved in sailing – no prior experience or sailing licence required. You can help set and trim the sails, take the helm yourself, or lend a hand with other tasks on deck. The crew will be happy to explain the basics of sailing to you, show you how radar navigation works on the bridge, or give you a tour of the engine room. Those who prefer to relax can simply enjoy the passing scenery – the motto is: ‘Everything is possible, nothing is compulsory.’

To cancel your sailing holiday with Sailing-Classics, please send your cancellation request by email to info@sailing-classics.com. Written notification is required so that the cancellation can be processed officially. Depending on when the cancellation is made, Sailing-Classics’ tiered cancellation terms and conditions will apply. We strongly recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance to protect yourself financially.
