A Distance Sailing Journey with a longer sailing stage for those who want to do a bit more sailing, but also time for swimming directly from the ship. From the magnificent backdrop of Santorini in the huge caldera with a view of the white villages clinging to the edge of the crater, we sail to Folegandros. One of the Greeks’ favorite places, the Chora is one of the most beautiful places in the Aegean. From Milos it is approx. 500 nm from the Aegean to Mediterranean Sea, south of the Peloponnese to Malta. Once again, a magnificent sight awaits you as you enter the Grand Harbor, one of the largest natural harbors in the Mediterranean Sea with its huge fortifications.
Every sailing trip follows the conditions of nature. The itinerary shown is a non-binding orientation and can change depending on wind and weather.
Independent travel to Santorini. Before embarking, it is well worth exploring this spectacular volcanic island with its white houses and famous views over the caldera.
In the evening the crew welcomes you on board RHEA. At the first dinner together you get to know your fellow travellers and the crew, and look forward to an extraordinary sailing voyage across the eastern Mediterranean.
After breakfast it’s time to cast off. RHEA leaves Santorini and sets course for Folegandros, one of the most unspoilt and charming islands of the Cyclades.
Its picturesque Chora, perched high above the sea, is among the most beautiful in Greece. On a stroll through the whitewashed lanes, past little cafés and viewpoints, you savour the special atmosphere of the Aegean islands one last time before the great passage westward begins.
Depending on the weather, the route may take in the volcanic island of Milos. Spectacular coastal formations, turquoise bays and bizarre rock landscapes characterise this unique island.
RHEA then sets her course for the open Mediterranean. The coastlines slowly vanish over the horizon, making way for the intense experience of offshore sailing.
The coming days are all about sailing. Far from harbours and coastlines, you experience the special freedom of a longer passage.
With a little luck, dolphins will accompany you for part of the way. By day you enjoy life on deck, watch the crew at work on the sails or join short introductions to navigation and seamanship. After sunset, an awe-inspiring starry sky unfolds over the open sea.
On a long-distance voyage, the sea shows a new face every day. Sometimes a fresh breeze makes for spirited sailing; at other times RHEA glides serenely through deep blue water.
The breadth of the horizon, the rhythmic rush of the water and the special sense of community on board make these days an unforgettable experience for everyone who loves true sailing.
After several days at sea, RHEA approaches Maltese waters. The first coastlines appear on the horizon, heralding arrival in the central Mediterranean.
Off the coast there is often still the chance for a swimming stop in crystal-clear water before the yacht drops anchor in a sheltered bay. Anticipation of Malta grows with every nautical mile.
Today RHEA reaches Valletta’s famous Grand Harbour – without doubt one of the most impressive harbour entrances in Europe.
The mighty fortifications, historic bastions and honey-coloured buildings of the Maltese capital form a spectacular backdrop. In the evening you enjoy the traditional Captain’s Dinner and celebrate together the end of a special voyage devoted entirely to sailing.
After a final breakfast on deck, you disembark in Valletta. Independent departure or an extension of your stay in Malta, where Mediterranean culture, history and joie de vivre come together.
